The Big Apple + Maritime Cruise (July 10-17, 2008)

Day 1 – Tuesday, July 10, 2008
Arrive New York City, NY

Today we will depart from our home cities and arrive in New York City, to begin an amazing adventure exploring the ‘Big Apple’.

Day 2 – Wednesday, July 11, 2008
New York City

This morning we will board a Double Decker Bus for a fully narrated tour of New York City. We will have the opportunity to view the most famous neighborhoods, attractions and places of interest: Times Square, Madison Square Garden, Macy’s, Empire State Building, SoHo, Chinatown, Little Italy, to name just a few. We will spend some time at the Site of the World Trade Center (Ground Zero), and no doubt reflect on “the day that changed the world”. A very special afternoon is planned – we will board the ferry to Liberty Island and tour the world famous Statue of Liberty. This will be followed by a visit to the Ellis Island Immigration Museum. We will enjoy an award winning movie, ‘Island of Hope – Island of Tears’. This 30 minute documentary film is a great introduction to the immigrant experience on Ellis Island. Next we will join a ranger for a 45-minute guided tour of Ellis Island’s and we will learn of it’s history. This evening another wonderful experience as we attend a Broadway Show (show title to be announced).

Day 3 – Thursday, July 12, 2008
Embark the Carnival Victory

This afternoon we will board the Carnival ‘Victory’. We will be smiling from ear-to-ear as we explore this magnificent ship. She has four shimmering pools, a wide variety of delicious dining options, and endless entertainment venues. At 5:00 pm we set sail from New York Harbor and cruise past the Statue of Liberty.

Day 4 – Friday, July 13, 2008
Day at Sea

Today will be spent at sea and we can enjoy the many ‘fun’ activities offered aboard. Perhaps we may try our luck at the friendly casino or relax at the state-of-the-art spa.

Day 5 – Saturday, July 14, 2008
St. John, New Brunswick – 8:00 am – 4:00 pm

Get up close to the world-renowned Bay of Fundy and experience it’s effects on Saint John, the Fundy City! On this excursion we will take a short, guided walk to the New Brunswick Museum to learn about the wonders of the Bay of Fundy, where we will discover the forces that work together to create the highest tides in the world, which rise to over 40 feet! Here we will learn about the geology and geography of the Bay of Fundy region. We will see why the Reversing Falls exist, and learn about the variety of birds, seals and fish species that call the bay home. Next we will board a sightseeing boat for a closer look at the Bay of Fundy and the famous Reversing Falls Rapids, a unique phenomenon , where the mighty Bay of Fundy causes the St. John River to reverse direction and flow upstream. Enjoy a short cruise around the harbor, and then walk back to the ship.

Day 6 – Sunday, July 15, 2008
Halifax , Nova Scotia– 9:00 am – 6:00 pm

This informative excursion will explain how the city of Halifax became connected to the sinking of the Titanic 750 miles east of Halifax on April 15, 1912. We will learn how the city served as a main base for the recovery operation for 209 victims. We will see the church where the memorial services for the victims were held and view the location where the temporary holding sites were set up. We will also see the 150 identical gravestones which mark the final resting place of the Titanic victims. We will also visit the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic’s which houses an impressive exhibit on the Titanic including a collection of Titanic artifacts – the only existing Titanic deck chair, and an intricately carved door topper that was copied for the movie ‘Titanic’.

Day 7 – Monday, July 16, 2008
Day at Sea

Today will be spent at sea cruising back to New York City. Again we will have the opportunity to experience all the ‘Victory’ has to offer.

Day 8 – Wednesday, July 17, 2008
New York City – 8:00 am

Today we will arrive back in the ’Big Apple’ and we will disembark the ‘Carnival Victory’ and depart for home – each of us with special memories of this wonderful journey.
