Kentucky Derby

Kentucky Derby 2007 130What an incredible ‘Life Experience’! Not just another day at the races – The Kentucky Derby is a must see event for anyone with a desire for the excitement, and exhilaration that can only be found at such a world famous ‘spectacle’. Val Umscheid and Diana Rougeau of Kaleidoscope Travel & Cruise accompanied such a group to Louisville, Kentucky on May 1st to explore the surrounding area before attending the 133rd Kentucky Derby – held on the first Saturday in May. The group stayed at the beautiful Campbell House in Lexington for the six day trip. Lexington, (approximately 60 miles from Churchill Downs) is a picture perfect area and is just as you may have seen in a magazine. Miles of white picket fences surround acres of luscious Kentucky blue grass horse farms. Breakfast one morning was spent at Keeneland Track in the company of thejockeys and owners whose horses were stabled and being trained in preparation for the Kentucky Derby. Another wonderful day was spent at the Woodford Reserve Distillery – makers of the famous Bourbon used in the traditional ‘Mint Julip’ the official drink of the Kentucky Derby. Of course everyone had to sample ‘their fare’! Another day was spent exploring ‘The Kentucky Horse Farm’, a wonderful property dedicated to the life of the horse and to horse racing and breeding. A visit to the Three Chimney Horse Farm (Smarty Jones), followed by time at the ‘Old Kentucky Chocolate Factory’ was also enjoyed by everyone. And now it was ‘Derby Day’, so the ladies ‘donned’ their hats and the gentleman admired them, and it was ‘off to the races’. Call today to reserve your space for the 134th Kentucky Derby and you too could be a part of this amazing ‘Life Experience’.
