In November 2004 I had the pleasure of visiting Montego Bay. It was easy to see why so many tourist choose Jamaica as their vacation destination. The town is surrounded by sparkling white sand beaches, beautiful hotels and luxurious all-inclusive resorts. Montego Bay is located on the north coast and is the second largest city in Jamaica. The word Montego Bay comes from the word manteca meaning lard. In the old days the Spaniards used to butcher wild hogs in the mountains and ship the lard from this port. Renowned for its beauty and range of activities, Montego Bay is a place where history and legend come together to offer the most intriguing attractions. Visit Rose Hall Great House the home of Annie Palmer, the white witch. Legend has it that three of her husbands met their death at her hands, while countless slaves suffered as a result of her ruthlessness. Treat yourself to the breathtaking experience of an exhilarating ride on a 30-foot bamboo raft along three picturesque miles of the legendary Martha Brea River. Or journey to the Appleton Rum Estate for a look inside the rum making process. You will also find ample opportunity for water skiing, sailing, deep sea fishing, and snorkeling.
